Acrylic, crayon and ink on canvas, 2023

Playing various online First Person Shooter games using my “Artist’s Mouse” to translate video game play to brush strokes on canvas. The works included here are “Playing PUBG with Cy Twombly” and “Playing Fortnite with Lee Krasner”. The colours and general compositional elements are inspired by an original piece by each selected artist, the resulting large scale paintings (3 X 1.5 meters) are created through playing hundreds of rounds of game play over several week’s time. I started these paintings while recovering from a seriously dislocated left thumb from an unfortunate bicycling accident. After surgery this past February, there was little I could do with my left hand. These works translate repetitive game play into contemplative and concretised expressions in the abstract. I plan to continue these works for the foreseeable future.
