America’s Army Drawings

Graphite on rag paper, 2011

These drawings are of my fallen avatar from the “America’s Army” recruiting game, drawn using graphite pencil from recorded screenshots takine during the interventionist project "dead-in-iraq". I've isolated the figure from their backgrounds for the first five drawings. Each drawing is rendered centered on a 22x30" piece of Rives BFK rag paper. In these works I am interested in updating the tradition of the "combat artist" through the creation of these images which exist to represent a shift between simulation and document of war. This series is in the permanent collection of BAMPFA (Berkeley Art Museum and Film Archive).
