Me and My Plastic: Walking with Ghillie Dhu, 2025
Work in progress: walking performance and community engagement

I am quite pleased to be in the development phase of a new project exploring plastic waste, durational walking, and Scottish cultural heritage. In 2020 I collected a year's worth of every piece of non-recyclable, single-use plastic that came into my life. My 6 large trash bags of plastic waste is being transformed into a wearable artwork, a “Ghillie Suit” to be worn for a 21 day walking performance, traversing 198 miles across Scotland from Dundee (where I lived/collected all the plastic), to the birch wood at Gairloch. Gairloch is the home to the "Ghillie Dhu”, a mythical faerie from Scottish folklore, clothed in leaves and bark, the inspiration for the invention of the full-body camouflage “Ghillie suit”. Ghillie Dhu will join me on the walk as an AR (Augmented Reality) visualisation, visible to the public on their mobile devices. I will stop along the way to interact with local communities to engage in discussions about sustainability and plastic waste. My progress will be trackable worldwide via live-streamed online updates. At the end of the journey I will leave my AR Ghillie Dhu forever in the wood at Gairloch. I plan to engage in this project in late spring of 2025.
